Becoming a Member

Thank you for your
interest in the George Town Club. We look
forward to introducing you to our vibrant and welcoming community.
Current
members,
please note our sponsorship procedures. If you wish to
propose a potential member, please see below for a guide to the application
process. In addition, please note that the Primary Sponsor is to be the sole
communicator between the Club’s Membership Director and the candidate.
Prospective
members are required to attend one of the Prospective New Member Events to meet
committee members, learn about the application process, club benefits, and club
rules. This step must occur before any forms and applications are
submitted.
- Membership is by invitation only and all candidates
for membership must have support from at least 4 current members in good
standing, and have been a member in good standing for at least one year:
- A Primary Sponsor who must have known
the candidate socially and/or professionally for a minimum of one year. It is the Primary Sponsor’s responsibility to complete the sponsorship form in
a detailed and timely manner and assist their nominee in securing all other required
letters and materials. Non-Resident members may not serve as the Primary Sponsor.
- A Co-sponsor who must have had
multiple interactions with the candidate socially and/or professionally over several months. We trust that co-sponsors, in good faith, know the candidate.
This is a strict requirement. Non-Resident members may not serve as the Co-Sponsor.
- A minimum of two
additional letters of recommendation forms (1-3 paragraphs) from current members who
know the candidate. These letters must be submitted in support of candidates
before the voting process. Non-Resident members may be a Letter of Recommendation sponsor, however only one of the two required letters of support can be submitted by a Non-Resident member.
- Non-Resident members may not serve as a primary or co-sponsor. Non-Resident members are allowed to submit a Letter of Recommendation, so long as only one non-resident Letter of Recommendation is used in support of a candidate's application.
- Members are required to login online at www.georgetownclub.org to submit ALL sponsor forms and support letters. Handwritten
letters or emails to the Club’s Membership Director will not be accepted.
- The timeline for processing candidates can vary significantly
due to numerous of factors including (but not limited to) proper completion of
all parts of the application, mandatory “posting period”, and availability of
board members to review applications. Sponsors should not contact the
club regarding timing of a candidate’s status until at least 9 months after a complete
application has been submitted.
Candidates and sponsors
that do not meet the above requirements will have their applications returned.
